Cool Culture
Research has proven that exposure to arts at a young age helps kids stay in--and finish--school. Unfortunately, some families simpy can't afford to make us of our borough's cultural offerings. Cool Culture makes the arts accessible.
Founded in 1999, Cool Culture builds bridges between families from low-income communities and cultural institutions in New York City, so that children from all economic backgrounds can benefit from early exposure to these outstanding resources.
In 2008-2009 alone, Cool Culture enabled 97,000 Head Start families in
To make the children feel welcome and engage families, the program works with some 85 cultural institutions and government-subsidized day care programs, to provide trainings for parents and teachers, publish a free newsletter for participating families and distribute free tickets.
The Brooklyn Community Foundation Arts for All Fund enables children--and their families--to have access to critical cultural programs throughout the borough.
