A New Approach to School Discipline: Understanding Restorative Justice

Last year we launched the Brooklyn Restorative Justice Project, an ambitious 4-year leadership initiative to change disciplinary culture in Brooklyn schools.

On our newly launched Insights to Impact Blog, our Vice President of Programs Kaberi Banerjee Murthy introduces our nonprofit grantees and their Restorative Justice Coordinators who are now working with students, teachers, parents, and leadership in our four partner schools to implement holistic alternatives.

Why did you open up a Donor Advised Fund at Brooklyn Community Foundation?

I was looking for a way to help organizations in Brooklyn that were doing good work beyond the few charities I already knew about.

It’s great to be able to rely on the Brooklyn Community Foundation to learn more about the organizations doing the best work to help Brooklynites most in need, and I’m happy knowing that our charitable donations are also supporting the important work of the Foundation.


New Director of Operations: Edgardo Rivera 

We’re proud to welcome Edgardo Rivera as our new Director of Operations starting this week!

Ed comes to the Foundation with a decade of service in city government, most recently as Assistant Commissioner of Administration in the NYC Department of Investigation. Ed is a third generation Brooklynite and Air Force Veteran. He lives in North Brooklyn, where he and his family are mastering martial arts at Traditional Okinawan Karate.
